Sunday Mornings...Halifax Style

It's been a little over a year since we moved to Halifax from Toronto. And, I must admit, on many levels, I'm still adjusting to the change. Some things are lovelier, like misty fog over the harbor, the sound of fog horns and whistles reminding us of shift change at the ship yard on the water just down the street from us; the natural beauty of countryside just minutes from our door; finding ethnic pockets and delightful food experiences; and of course....

being close to Boaz and his parents.

Bo teaching my Honey all about Halifax rocks.

There is one tradition I do miss however...Sunday mornings Toronto style... reading the Sunday NY Times in bed. Unfortunately, it doesn't get delivered to Halifax until 6 PM...you read right...Sunday evening. So we've started another tradition...not quite as much fun, because my favorite part of the paper is all those over the top ads. I know what you're thinking....should she really have said that? But, come on...it's fun to jokingly say "Honey, buy me that gazillion dollar (fill in the blank with jewels, clothes, etc., even if I would never own it if I did have the cash) and even more fun to plan where we would stay/eat/check out on our next trip to NYC.

The new tradition....reading it on our laptops (I get bored faster than my Honey - the advertising doesn't do it in the same way) with CBC Radio in the background, coffee (usually Just Us a fair trade local brand, reasonably priced and delicious) and like today...

...a Scramble of one sort or another or other easy eggy options. Today's choice used some local smoked farmer's sausage with mushrooms, green onions, red peppers, fresh cilantro...and from my favorite Middle Eastern Shop...Aleppo Pepper - a slightly smoky, slightly hot red pepper powder - think smoky paprika blended with cayenne pepper. I'm not sure what the secret ingredients are, but the results are awesome.

So....any changes in your weekend traditions? I'd love to know.

We have a new tradition, just recently actually. My sister and I managed to fix up our garden, put out the marble chairs and table and set up a tent underneath a mango tree. There's also a herb garden close by. Well, we've gotten used to eating out in the garden for lunch every Sunday. My dad gets excited on what will I cook for Sunday lunch. We always eat Filipino style, usually with bare hands and banana leaves covering the table instead of a table cloth. It's fun and enjoyable and we could actually stay long in front of the table talking while the dogs surround us!

It's not quite the same, but don't you love the internet?
So many conveniences we didn't have before. :)

Corinne, I do love the internet, but somehow, on Sunday mornings... I miss the jumble of papers, the smell of the ink.

Lovely breakfast Ruth. The internet is driving us away from old nice habits.

My Other Half likes to take a glass of Prosecco (Chlampagne!) with Saturday or Sunday breakfast. Then we have either pancakes with jam, lemon juice & honey, and/or potato bread, croissants or olive bread with ham, buttermilk blended with raspberry/strawberry. Our poison is a blend of South American and Malaysian coffee (body and aroma ultimate!).
