Stained Glass Pappardelle

Have you ever had a recipe stay with you for months? You know you want to make it, but the opportunity doesn't arise. Then, all of a sudden...today is the day, but (and one of those BIG buts) you don't remember where you saw it. I was pretty sure it was a Jamie Oliver thing...I thought it was in Jamie's Italy(it seemed logical since it's pasta) - Nope...perhaps I saw it on Foodtv - nope...what about Jamie's own website - nada....quick flip through Cook with Jamie- nothing. Oh well, no time to really search, it's off to Joanna's where we are finally making more home-made pasta. It's been a while since we started (and stopped) our Sunday tradition.

So with a vague memory of the stained glass pasta recipe I saw somewhere, we created this awesome dish. Obviously it took a little longer than it will next time, and I think I'll use a very simple sauce so guests can really oooh and aaah over the look and flavor of the pasta. Still, if you're into making your own pasta, give it a try.

Stained Glass Pappardelle with Sun-dried Tomato Pesto Sauce

Oh...and naturally now that I've made the dish and written it up for you...I had to double check my Jamie Oliver books again and there it was...Page 90 & 99 in Cook with Jamie. He used a glorious sounding roasted squash sauce. Good to know for next time.

What are you sharing with Presto Pasta Night? The roundup is tomorrow, but you still have time to enter.

WOW!!! I've always wanted to make that, but haven't. You've inspired me.

That pasta with the herbs that can be seen from the outside looks nice! I really need to get a pasta maker.

I read about this recipe in a book called "The $64 Tomato" but it was called Windowpane Pasta. Looks very yummy!

I give you credit - I have no idea how I could have cooked it after it looked so good. I would have had Stouffers French Bread Pizza and just gazed at the pasta all night.

Sher, once we got the hang of it, it was really easy. I was surprised.

Kevin...yes you do!

Georgia, whatever anyone calls it, it's very easy and very tasty.

Mike...thanks and you are too funny. That's why we take photos
;-)
But I do wish I had some right now.

I love the pasta, Ruth! Did you add the herbs while you were putting the pasta through the pasta machine. Do tell, i would like to have a go!

I've wanted to make it, too. I made some once with slivers of basil but nothing this gorgeous! Well done!

Ruth ~ It is really hard to pass up beautifully presented and well-cooked pasta. I, too, have seen Jamie's stained glass pasta and salivated. So has Eric. We're intent on spending weekends making fresh pasta to freeze when we live together again. Your pasta turned out beautifully.

Holler, we pressed the dough several times to get it really thin and then for the last time or two we put herbs on half the pasta sheet and fold it over, press hard and then pass it through the pasta maker.

Katie, it's a lot easier than it looks and impresses the ** out of everyone.

Shaun, I've missed you! And when do the two of you get together again?
