Pasta Surprise

Today was garbage day - I know, you're all thrilled to hear, you couldn't sleep the last few nights wondering when it was going to happen. But seriously, that meant that yesterday was time to go through the always too full fridge and see what needed to go the way of the green bin (we recycle here in Toronto).

And I found some wonderful things that escaped the green bin and made their way to our table. In fact, that's my favorite way to cook - getting creative with what's on hand. So here's a peek at what I found.....

There was some leftover cooked farfalle pasta from the shrimp & garlic breadcrumb pasta from the other night; and some chicken with mushroom, mustard seed and black pepper sauce I was testing for the cookbook; and there were some containers filled with goodies from one of my favorite St Lawrence Market stalls, Scheffler's Deli - grilled red peppers with roasted garlic, a block of Parmesano Reggiano cheese and pitted Nicoise olives; of course there was some home-made pesto ( I try never to run out); some white wine and baby spinach. All I needed to do was add some heat. This time I chose dried red chili pepper flakes.

I love when things just magically come together - especially when it all happens within 15 minutes.

This is how I love to cook. It sounds like it turned out very well.

It certainly did...and if I don't do any cooking this weekend, I might just sneak it in for WHB.
