Trip to the Farmers Market & Hunt for Garlic Scapes

Just a short post this morning before a jam packed little boy afternoon... I wonder what we'll play?  But I did want to share my Seaport Farmers Market score...
... and give credit where credit is due...herbs on the window sill are from my last visit to the market - Riverview Herbs... and the asparagus a last minute addition to our stuffed bags are from Noggins Corner Farm Market....
I've been craving garlic scapes ever since finding this recipe for Garlic Scape Pesto on Epicurious, and saved on my Pinterest board. I do love my Pinterest and can't imagine life before it, with a bazillion bookmarks all over the place and never remembering where I saw the original recipe.... but I digress.
It's still early for garlic scapes here in Nova Scotia , but I managed to find these gorgeous ones... along with organic free range eggs at Selwood Green.
Unfortunately Elmridge Farm had a fire this past week, but troopers that they are, they still managed to bring some of their produce to market.  Just look at those baby carrots, baby beets... with greens that will be wonderful sauteed and new potatoes, not to mention mushrooms.  Peeking out to the left of the beets is thinly sliced roast beef and packaged flank steak... never pretty raw, always gorgeous after from Getaway Farm Meat Mongers.
And how could we survive without Julien's Pain Chocolat & croissants while putting away our score and savoring our lunch which will be sandwiches made from their Olive bread
This week it was time to restock the pantry & fridge with some of my favorite things...
Apple Sage Jelly from Tangled Garden... one of my favorite places on earth.  If you're thinking of a visit to Nova Scotia and the Annapolis Valley in particular, you have to stop by and spend some time in their gardens.   But I digress.  The olive oil from Tucan Olive Oil company. located here and imported from Tunisia.  The aftertaste is pure Heaven.  And It's been quite a while since I bought some Dragon's Breath Blue Cheese from That Dutchman's Farm.   It's perfect to crumble on salads, add to frittatas and...add to pasta dishes.
I couldn't wait to make the pesto (recipe on Epicurious) and I promise to share more of my creations and hope this inspires you to find your local producers and share your own.

I always love heading down to the farmers market on the weekend! I do it every weekend in the summer! I was just reminiscencing about the past and I noticed that you were the first person to comment on one of my recipes and I thank you for encouraging me to continue! It has been a long and enjoyable journey and I really should get back into doing more pasta dishes! :)

I still love visiting your blog - even though I don't often leave a comment and hope for more pastas!

Working 6 days a week has put a serious damper on me getting to our local farmers market. I happened to have a day off Saturday and the first place I headed was...you guessed it. I was like a kid in a candy store.

I haven't gotten any scapes this year and really need to head to the market before they're gone for good!
