The Great KitchenAid Giveaway

The Holiday Season is just around the corner... actually, it seems like we're in the feasting season from September through January, depending on your culture and your religion.  Regardless of your background, celebrating holidays means feasting and feasting means cooking.... lots of cooking!

The next holiday at our house is Hanukkah - festival of lights and potato latkes.   In the "olden days".... days of my mother and grandmother and all those mothers before them, that meant grating BY HAND at least ten pounds of potatoes to transform them into the lacy - crispy on the outside, tender and soft on the inside latkes that are always the central dish in any Ashkenazi Jewish home.

That's my grandmother, Auntie Rita and my Mom serving up some delicious dishes for some do or other.  Check out the fancy "party" aprons.   The tradition, for our family at least, meant that upon entering the house, the guests would sneak into the kitchen for "JUST ONE" hot latke right out of the frying pan and forget to leave!  Before you know it, one platter of latkes would be devoured before the meal was served!!!

We've come a long way since then... not from the eating part - that tradition of sneaking into the kitchen is still alive and well.  Now, I couldn't imagine making latkes without a food processor to speed things up dramatically.
The very generous folks at KitchenAid Canada have offered a fantastic giveaway of their latest 13 cup deluxe food processor that is truly spectacular for one of my Canadian readers... sorry about the rest of you.

Just check out some of the key features:
• New external adjustable, stainless steel slicing disc provides ultimate versatility
• Dual shredding disc easily flips the disc from 2mm to 4mm to achieve ideal slicing thickness
• Large 13-cup (2.75L) leak-proof work bowl, plus chef’s bowl and mini bowl to efficiently
• Ultra Wide Mouth Feed Tube™ adjusts to 3 different sizes to accommodate foods of varying sizes, including whole potatoes and cucumbers
• 17 precise food processing options for speed-controlled slice, shred, chop & puree functions plus three maximized slice, shred and puree/chop blades and bonus dough, egg whip & Julienne blades
• 4 speed-controlled functions
• Comfort design side handle allows easy viewing while the food processor is in use
Even if latkes are not on your holiday menu, I know there are lots of dishes that can be prepared in a jiffy.  The Holiday Slaw - from the folks at KitchenAid - took me less than ten minutes to prepare!  With the addition of cranberries and a dressing of maple syrup and balsamic apple cider vinegar, it's perfect for a buffet or a side for that turkey dinner.

All you have to do to receive this awesome gift is to write a comment below about why that lucky person should be you.   Share a funny or heart wrenching reason and I'll choose one lucky reader WHO LIVES IN CANADA.  Deadline to enter is November 26th.   Check back after that to see who the winner is.

well, I forgive you. But only because I have a food processor that I love and because you shared that delicious slaw!

If it were up to me, I'd send one to everyone who left a comment. But this IS a KitchenAid CANADA promotion, so....

The slaw is really festive - I made some for no reason at all and still felt like I had a party hat on!

Thanks for the slaw recipe, Ruth. Amazingly that's what I was asked to bring to the Thanksgiving dinner I'm going to - cole slaw. I hope they don't mind they're getting your version instead of the mayo saturated one. :)

(And I too am in the US so not eligible, but it was nice of them to sponsor a contest for you!)

I'm sure they'll get over the no mayo aspect of the cole slaw once they've tasted it.

It is too bad the giveaway is only in Canada, but some lucky Canadian will get a great gift!

I should be the lucky Canadian* winner, because having a food processor would save me a lot of time. I have a caramelized shallot and Brussels sprout hash to make for Christmas and shredding the sprouts by hand takes a lot of time. This food processor would give me more time to also make a dessert - I'm thinking Egg Nog cookies!

This food processor would save me a lot of time! I make a Brussels Sprout Hash with Caramelized Shallot recipe at Christmas and shredding the sprouts by hand for a large crowd takes a lot of time. Winning this would make easy work of the shredding and allow me time to make a dessert. I'm thinking Egg Nog cookies!

This is such a nice giveaway Ruth. Why I should be the winner you ask? I could make a meal in no time for my family for Dinner. Also I have memories of my mom using her food processor to make a delicious cheese ball. I could re-recreate the recipe for the Holidays. Pizza dough also comes to mind. It would be ready in couple minutes instead of kneading by hand. Really convenient.

It should be me because I don't have a food processor currently and have been coveting this one since I first saw it.

Rhonda, do you live in Canada?

Yes in fact I live in Halifax!I have been lurking at your blog for several years- I really enjoy you recipes and stories- have probably passed you by at the market!

I am very excited to be in the draw!!! I am a Nova Scotian living in Edmonton, and I just read about your blog in Saltscapes!! Congratulations on the article. That must be so exciting for you! I look forward to getting to know you and adding new recipes to my collection.

I should be the lucky winner because I love to cook, and being a mother of 4 young (infant-6 years) children, I need all the convenience I can get!! I've never owned a food processor. The thing that I would be most excited to make would be my grandmother's "Million Dollar Relish". She just passed away in September, and I asked my dad to save me some utensils and tools from her kitchen. My sister and I have made her relish in the past, but to make it we have to borrow a food processor from a friend.

I should be the lucky winner as if I win this for my wife I will get to use it too. This is opposed to my buying her one and giving to her as a present in which case I am not allowed to touch it (this comment is based on my experience with our Kitchen-aid stand-mixer). Seriously my wife is a wonderful cook and she would like this. As would I.
I live in NS Canada and check in on your blog periodically due to reading about it Saltscapes. I like to read local.

So many great bids... especially nice to see some folks close to home.

One more day before I decide... keep the bids coming.

Like Jenn A. above, I am a Nova Scotian (Pictou County area) currently living in Edmonton.

I would love to win this because I love to cook but sometimes I come across a recipe that looks amazing but I don't try it because it would be too much work without a food processor. My current "food processor" is a Slap Chop style chopper - not exactly high quality or efficient! I covet KitchenAid products when I see them in stores but the cost is a bit prohibitive.

I want to win so badly...I have already cleared off a spot on my kitchen counter for this little beauty!

I should win this because I also happen to have an ultra wide mouth feed tube that is able to accommodate foods of varying sizes, but I find it much easier---and much more polite---to eat food that has been properly prepared, which this food processor would make more than possible. After all, eating whole potatoes and cucumbers on my own goes against everything Miss Manners has ever taught me.

I would like to win this because I am currently NOT a cook, but my new year's resolution for 2012 is going to involve cooking something new every week. If I were to win this, I could try out so many more recipes!

I live in Halifax, and was pointed to your tweets by a friend in Toronto, who I believe knew you when you were both in school.

Now I'm not sure I will be able to use this even if I do win. Asking if it had a setting for "kindling" didn't seem to help my cause. I am looking forward to using this in conceiving ne and exotic BradBurgers"

Thanks so much, everyone, for all the great entries. It was a tough decision since everyone deserves a great KitchenAid food processor, but Jenn A, with her 4 young children and a story of her grandmother's million dollar relish, wins the day.

Jenn, just email me your mailing address and phone number for me to forward on to the awesome folks at KitchenAid. Send it to ruth (at) 4everykitchen (dot) com.
