Old Magazines, New Recipes - A Win/Win

I mentioned that I'm going through my old foodie magazines in preparation for moving. It's not for three months but going through a gazillion magazines, takes time. I'm still working on Cooking Light and it's been quite rewarding.

For example, just when I realized that it was Wednesday and I still hadn't made a pasta dish for Presto Pasta Nights, which is being hosted this week by an old friend, make that long-time friend, Katie of Thyme for Cooking. I love her posts. They always start my day with a smile. But I digress....while I was looking through - and ripping out recipes, I found one for pasta with a chickpea and garlic sauce, which intrigued me. And never being one to let a good thing alone, I made it my own...taking out a little of this and adding a lot of ...well see for yourself..

What's your favorite way to change up a recipe?

Don't forget to send in your pasta dishes to Katie for this week's Presto Pasta Night Roundup. Just drop her a line with your link - don't forget to mention Thyme for Cooking and a link in the post - to thyme2 (dot) kate (at) gmail (dot) com and a cc to me at ruth (at)4everykitchen (dot) com.

Is this pile of recipes going to take up just about as much room as all those magazines? It could happen easily. Maybe you should scan them into the computer instead :)

hmmmm...scanning is a good idea too. Epicurious (Gourmet & Bon Appetit) also has a recipe box, easier than scanning and sorting, so I'll start with them ;-D

Hi Ruth,

My first time in your blog. Lovely blog you got here. I have my own blog and interested in participating in "Pasta Cooking event". Can you please give me some more details as I am a little confused? Is it a weekly event? When is the roundup and where is the list of whom to send recipes to for a certain week. Please help. My email id priya.mitharwal@gmail.com or my blog is http://mharorajasthanrecipes.blogspot.com/

Please feel free to leave me a message.

Priya, I will send you a seperate email, but check here for Presto Pasta Night Guidelines. http://www.prestopastanights.com/2009/02/how-to-join-presto-pasta-night-fun.html

It's a weekly event - every Friday, in fact. Hosting varies so do check www.prestopastanights.com to see who's hosting each week.

That sounds wonderful, Ruth! (The chickpeas in pasta, not the moving. I can't imagine what a nightmare it must be to pack!)

And I know what you mean about making changes. Although, I try not to be quite as cavalier as I used to be. Once I made stir-fried chicken and almonds but instead of chicken I used fish and instead of almonds I used sesame seeds. As I recall, I think the only thing that was left of the recipe was the onions and garlic.

i love rediscovering recipes in old cooking magazines. Whenever I first receive them, I bookmark tons of recipes. Only to promptly forget all of them by the next week. I really need to do something about that!

The pasta looks delicious...chickpeas and garlic are a great combination!

I always forget how many great recipes are in my magazines and when I flip through them again, I wonder how I could have missed them. The chickpeas sound delicious in this pasta!
