South Beach Diet - The Only One For Me

More about the cake at the end of the post....

Every one has their own diet saga. And everyone will tell you that the beginning of any diet is challenging, so I thought I'd share my own South Beach Diet journey with you, in hopes that you will be encouraged.

First let me say, that I'm a sprinter...what exactly does that have to do with anything? Well, back in high school, when it came to Track & Field events, I did well in the sprint and less so (pathetic, in fact) in long distance running. I would shoot out of the starting position and run full throttle....great for short distances, but not for any length of time. Even now, I get excited about new things and lose interest fairly quickly, especially if it's boring, repetitive or, like many a diet - too intense a change.

I've tried many a diet in my day - Cabbage soup - 10 days of practically nothing but cabbage soup, which I used to like but now cringe at the thought of eating one bowlful; Atkins...we all know the limits of that one, no matter how tasty; Weight Watchers is great for many, but I can't do math and the thought of keeping track all day, isn't for me - too regimented; then are are the diet programs that include prepared meals, but I really like cooking from scratch, so that doesn't work well for me either.

Which brings me to the real crux of dieting. Anyone can starve themselves for a short time and lose weight, but it's really about a lifestyle change that keeps the weight off. So....pick the one that's least disruptive to you.

If you've been reading here lately, you know that we're doing a South Beach Diet Phase One regroup, too many pastas and too much Julien Bakery bread (they're just a block from our home). But I thought I'd let you read some of my first journey - I lost 20 pounds in 2006 and managed to keep it off until the big move to Halifax this past May. Now 10 pounds have crept back up and it's time to get rid of them!

Last night's dinner....Black Bean Chili with Crunchy Romaine Salad and Cyndi's Mocha Pudding. Very tasty, but I'm craving some really good bread to go with it!

And the cake at the top of the page....Cassata Cheesecake South Beach Diet friendly reward in phase two!!
