WHB and Some Oldies But Goodies

Wow, another week has flown by and it’s time for Kalyn of Kalyn’s Kitchen Weekend Herb Blogging Event, better known as WHB. I must admit, I haven’t been posting as much as I would like lately, but I’ve been very busy organizing by category, all the recipes I’ve shared here. Please check them out by clicking here or on the strawberry tart link at the right. I couldn’t believe how many recipes I’ve cooked up since I started last May…and how many I had already forgotten about.

So for this week’s WHB, I thought I’d share a few oldies but goodies.

First up is the Herbs and Three Cheese Penne I just wrote about the other day so it's not old but it has become my new favorite thing that I plan on making over and over and over. The herb stars are basil & oregano

Next up is one post with two favorite herbs. The Spicy Mango Coleslaw has plenty of cilantro (or fresh coriander for my friends Down Under). The Roasted Potato & Garlic Salad is chock full of fresh mint. Now the short ribs don’t have any herbs, but they do taste amazing. This is one of my favorite summer meals. Maybe I should make some now and pretend….

And last, but certainly not least, Lime Roasted Sweet Potatoes. The star herb here is thyme. They’re paired here with some pan grilled tilapia that’s sprinkled with cilantro. It sounds like the pairing of herbs would clash. But trust me, they work well together because the sweet potatoes are – what else – sweet and the tilapia has some heat to it. The lime on the sweet potatoes add tang and go perfectly with cilantro.

Organizing my recipes on one level was a royal pain…it was tedious and detailed work and anyone who knows me, knows I’m more of a “big picture” person who gets bored with all the details. On the other hand, it was like that long put off dreaded chore of going through your closets and then finding some forgotten treasures...a wonderful rush!!!

What a great collection of herby recipes that all sound amazing. I'm bookmarking this page. Ruth, I can tell I would love to come to your house for dinner. (Besides it would be great fun to meet you in person, in addition to the great food.)

I found it interesting that a lot of people think my lower carb way of eating is so restrictive, but I didn't see anything in these recipes that I couldn't eat, maybe with a minor adaptation, like using Dramfield's pasta. Love it.

Thanks for the kind words Kalyn. I too, would love to meet you. Your house or mine - both work for me. Of course Utah is a little distance from Toronto Ontario. But you never know.

It is indeed a fabulous menu selection! I love the sound of the short ribs with the coleslaw and the lime roasted taters.
Ruth, if this is an indication of the recipes in your coming book, it's bound to be a great success. I'm drooling shamelessly. Thank goodness it's dinner time soon because this is killing me.

Jeffysspot, thanks for dropping by.

MM, glad you like the menu and thanks for the kind words about the book. The recipes in the book are for simple dishes that make you look like a star. Most of them are quick to do and even the long cooking ones like some of the soups, stews and roasts don't require much time to prepare.

I'm still looking for volunteer recipe testers,I'm desperate for others to use my recipes and find the inconsistencies, grammar mistakes, etc., so if anybody is interested or has some friends who might be, send me an email.
