Picnics by the Lake

We've been very fortunate to be able to stay at Joanna & Ezra's, especially now that summer has really arrived here in Halifax. There's nothing quite like a work break when it's a swim in the lake and picnics on the dock.

That's Sharron enjoying yesterday's lunch - grilled chicken and pickled ginger sandwiches followed by yoghurt and berries with lots of fresh mint.

Today we had some vine ripened tomatoes and avocado with fresh basil and drizzled with rice wine vinegar and a multigrain bagel with goat cheese and Italian herbs.

Our yoghurt choice was nectarines (that looked and smelled better than they tasted), blueberries and a drizzle of maple syrup (more because the nectarines lacked flavor than anything else).

With all those wonderful fresh herbs, how could I not share these picnic dishes with Kalyn's Weekend Herb Blogging Event. The Chocolate Lady from Il Molaraan is hosting and I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.

Now what are you planning for your picnics and where will you be taking them?

I've been picking bramble berries to have with my peaches and yogurt. Never thought to put some mint, with them! I'll try it tomorrow!
Miss eating on the dock - there's just something so peaceful about it!

Kalyn, it has been a great summer and even the city girl (me) will be sorry to leave here.

Joe, I love picnics too. Thanks.

Katie, bramble berries are new to me. I'll have to check if they grow locally. As to the dock...you're so right. It is peaceful and very Zen.

Oh I feel so envious looking at your lovely summer day. Picnics as well. But it won't be long and our sunny cold days will be sunny warm days. Hopefully
Carry on having a ball
