Weekend Cookbook Challenge Reminder and Black Mushroom & Leek Soup

Black Mushroom & Leek Soup

Just a quick reminder that Weekend Cookbook Challenge #8 Cooking Foods Foreign to YOU is coming up very soon - September 4th is the deadline. Some recipes from have started to trickle in and they do look awesome. So far we have recipes from India, China and Japan in and some hints at the Middle East and Wales to come. What are you planning to do?

I decided to tempt you all with this one I wrote about back in January when soup was a necessity. It's a scrumptious Chinese black mushroom and leek soup from Nina Simond's A Spoonful of Ginger. , one of my favorite books from ANY culture.

So what are you waiting for? Email me a link to your foreign food entry at ruthAT 4everykitchen DOT com.

I like the look of this soup. So comforting! The weather has changed slightly here. It's been raining a lot. :(

This soup is exactly what I need now as here, the weather's on the fresh side!

I haven't forgotten the WCC. I'll send my contribution very soon...

Mae & Rosa, thanks for dropping by.

The weather is still a little on the warm side for soup up here, but my honey has a cold (which probably means I'll get one too) and this is the perfect cure - well maybe "cure" is a strong word, but it wil make us feel better.

Rosa, looking forward to your WCC entry. And Mae, I'd love to know what your favorite foreign dish to make is too.

Mahek,
I'm not sure what type of crockery the bowl is made of. Definitely not glass. It's more like my standard china plates.

Funny thing about the photo...the bowl is actually a dessert bowl and too small to serve soup, but it worked well for the photo.

Ivonne, can't wait to see which country you choose.
Thanks for dropping by.
